St. Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Jesuits, sanctioned his order’s first school in 1548. The Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, who founded Marymount College, have conducted educational institutions since their establishment in France by Father Jean Gailhac. LMU’s purpose and vision have always been enhanced by our location on the tip of the Pacific Rim and in one of the world’s most dynamic cities. For LMU, the city is an extension of the classroom, offering a resplendent diversity of cultures, interests, access and opportunities. President Timothy Law Snyder, Ph.D., began his term as LMU’s 16th president on June 1, 2015 and was inaugurated on October 6, 2015. He has held four leadership positions at Jesuit universities and has four decades experience as a teacher and a scholar with a deep commitment to Ignatian education.
